ALBERTO MIELGO
MARATHON
Insanely talented animator and director
Alberto Mielgo. A lot of his work is strangely
hard to get hold of. One of the sites he
worked for - pinkman.tv sets off alarms
with several of my browsers, some of his
best work is behind a netflicks paywall
and don't even get me started about
vimeo and their stupid age verification.
That said, enjoy, and wait, like me,
for his next twisted masterpiece

INTERVIEW
(MAKING OF JIBARO)
RESONANCE FM
RADIO UNTAMED
Shamefully, I'd almost forgotten about Resonance FM
until I heard Stewart Lee singing its praises
on Radio 4 this week.
Some years ago, I had gone to one of their shows
at Conway Hall, Red Lion Square, Lon.
(home of the annual Anarchist Book Fair)
and it was a bit too Avant - Garde for my tastes
(I'm more experimental - a different thing)
Anyway, a radio station without setlists,
poptarts and general pandering to listener figures
- I should be celebrating it, too.
I'm going to make a mental note to listen more often.
Excellent Stewart Lee interview on
why everything is rubbish
THE END OF ART ?
I was going to post some of the work of an artist
I really like, who has been working since 2009.
I then noticed he had started using AI in 2024.
In his own words "I went from producing one
piece a week to making one every day"
As a result, there are hundreds of pictures
on his site - with no indication which is which.
I'm not even going to argue about the morality
of the issue - AI is just another fashion -
and I don't do fashion. But the way the whole of
society is being railroaded into using it is both
annoying and suspicious.
I deal with tech every day,
but I haven't found a single use for it
I've had trouble finding anything interesting
this week. I've no intention of turning this into
a full-time job, or blogging other people's blogs.
I've always lived by serendipity -
and it's the same with the internet.
Stumbling across the unusual and inventive
while doing research for creative projects
is one of the things I like best about my life.
The media-making landscape isn't looking
particularly great at the moment:
Digital artists on reddit complaining
of no sales because everyone
thinks their work is AI.
Bosses forcing their workers to use it,
even though it looks like trash.
Animators making one or two personal films
before being forced to work
for some soulless corporation.
I just got an email from a music distributor,
with a guide on how to weed out AI music.
I'm not giving up on blogging -
I still believe in an independent internet,
despite people saying it's already been broken .
I just refuse to buy into it -
I advise everyone else to do the same.
For those who are interested -
I use the brave browser to cut out
a load of the ads and anti-privacy stuff
and only ever use DuckDuckGo for
searches - I'm hoping the little bit
of tech, below, will help, too.
